Norman's Cove-Long Cove - as well as the surrounding areas of the Osprey Trail - is known for having, giving and using many nicknames for the people of the community. Some are strange, some are quite odd, many are very funny and some make you wonder "who in the world came up with that?". All, however are very colourful and are a part of what makes Norman's Cove/Long Cove the unique rural setting that it is. It has been said that "Big Ed" is responsible for 50% of the nicknames listed, but that is probably exaggerated by 20%. ;) It is interesting to note that some of the people are known exclusively by their nickname and many residents would be hard pressed to recall their real name. Often though, as you can see by the instances of the modified 'Dave' in the list, it is simply an identifier that differentiates each one. More often than not, just the modifier is used alone. These nicknames are by no means derogatory - there is a story behind each one. However, real names will only be listed with the permission of the individual. Contact Us.
